Lutz Schmittat
Head of Electromechanics E-Mobility,
Dräxlmaier Group

Lutz Schmittat is Director for Series Development in Electromechanics (E‑Mobility) at DRÄXLMAIER Group. He is responsible for all electromechanical products within the company’s e‑mobility portfolio, including high‑voltage components, charging‑related systems, and the underlying system architectures. His work spans the full development process—from early requirements and concept definition through to series approval—delivered in close collaboration with manufacturing and industrialization teams across DRÄXLMAIER’s global network.
He has been with DRÄXLMAIER for nearly fifteen years and has held key roles across series development, advanced development, and interior concept design. During this time, he has shaped early technology initiatives, driven prototypes and proofs‑of‑concept, and established processes that connect pre‑development with series‑ready solutions for e‑mobility programs.
Before moving into development leadership roles, Lutz headed Interior Concepts & Design, contributing to advanced studies, visualizations, and functional prototypes for OEM‑focused reviews. Earlier in his career, he completed thesis projects at Airbus and Daimler, combining concept development with hands‑on modelling and early IP‑related work. He is also a member of DRÄXLMAIER’s corporate Patent Committee, contributing to the technical assessment of invention disclosures.
Lutz holds a Master of Science and a Bachelor of Engineering in Automotive Body Design from HAW Hamburg.
